Medina

Medina ist die zweitheiligste Stadt des Islam, die Stadt der Auswanderung des Propheten und der Standort der Al-Masjid an-Nabawi.

Medina (arabisch: المدينة المنورة, „die erleuchtete Stadt“) ist die zweitheiligste Stadt des Islam. Es ist die Grabstätte des Propheten Mohammed und der Standort der Al-Masjid an-Nabawi (Moschee des Propheten).

Geschichte

Medina, damals bekannt als Yathrib, war das Ziel der Auswanderung (Hijra) des Propheten Mohammed aus Mekka im Jahr 622 n. Chr., dem Ereignis, das den Beginn des islamischen Kalenders markiert. Es wurde zur Hauptstadt des frühen muslimischen Staates.

Sehenswürdigkeiten

Al-Masjid an-Nabawi ist eine der größten Moscheen der Welt und beherbergt das Grab des Propheten. In der Stadt befinden sich auch die Quba-Moschee, die erste Moschee des Islam, und die Qiblatain-Moschee.
