Overview

Makkah Province (Arabic: منطقة مكة المكرمة) is a region in western Saudi Arabia on the Red Sea coast. It contains Makkah, the holiest city of Islam, and Jeddah, the Kingdom's principal commercial port.

Significance

The province receives millions of pilgrims each year for the Hajj and Umrah. The port of Jeddah is the main gateway for pilgrims arriving by sea and air, and the province contains the King Abdulaziz International Airport with its dedicated Hajj terminal.
