Overview
Taif (Arabic: الطائف) is a city in the Sarawat Mountains of western Saudi Arabia, about 100 kilometres south-east of Makkah. Its high elevation gives it one of the coolest climates in the Kingdom.
Economy
Taif is famous for its rose farms, which produce rose water and attar used in perfumes, and for its grapes, pomegranates and honey. It is a popular summer resort for residents of the hot coastal cities.
History
Taif was an important pre-Islamic settlement and the site of negotiations between the Prophet Muhammad and the tribes of the region.
