Overview
Dhahran (Arabic: الظهران) is a city in the Eastern Province of Saudi Arabia, part of the Dammam metropolitan area. It is the headquarters of Saudi Aramco, the national oil company.
Significance
Dhahran was the first place in Saudi Arabia where oil was discovered in commercial quantities, at the Dammam No. 7 well in 1938. It is home to the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals and the Dhahran Techno Valley.
