Saudi Arabia has consistently supported the Palestinian cause, providing political and financial backing and advocating a two-state solution.

Overview

Saudi Arabia has consistently supported the Palestinian cause and has provided political and financial support to Palestinian institutions. The Kingdom advocates a two-state solution based on the 1967 borders.

Political position

Saudi Arabia endorsed the Arab Peace Initiative, proposed in 2002, which offered normalisation of relations with Israel in exchange for a full withdrawal from occupied territories and a Palestinian state.

Financial support

Saudi Arabia has been a major donor to Palestinian institutions and to United Nations relief programmes, funding education, health and humanitarian services.

Regional diplomacy

Saudi Arabia has participated in Arab and international efforts to advance a political settlement, and has hosted Palestinian figures in Riyadh.

Pilgrimage

Palestinian pilgrims travel to Makkah and Madinah for the Hajj and Umrah, and Saudi Arabia has facilitated their access.
