Saudi Arabia and Pakistan maintain close relations founded on shared religious and cultural ties, with cooperation on energy, defence, labour and investment.

Historical ties

The relationship dates from the founding of Pakistan in 1947, and Saudi Arabia has been a consistent partner. Both countries are members of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.

Labour and remittances

A large Pakistani expatriate community works in Saudi Arabia, and remittances are a significant element of Pakistan's economy. The two countries cooperate on labour mobility.

Economic relations

Saudi Arabia has provided financial support to Pakistan, including deposits and deferred oil payment facilities, and has invested in Pakistani energy and infrastructure.

Defence and pilgrimage

Defence cooperation is long-standing, and Pakistani pilgrims travel to Makkah and Madinah for the Hajj.
