International Relations

Saudi Arabia–Oman relations

Saudi Arabia and Oman share a long desert border and GCC membership, with growing cooperation on trade, transport and energy.

Overview

Saudi Arabia and Oman are Gulf neighbours and members of the Gulf Cooperation Council, sharing a long desert border across the Rub' al Khali and the eastern edge of the peninsula.

Diplomatic relations

Oman has historically pursued an independent foreign policy within the Gulf, and it maintains cordial relations with Saudi Arabia. Both are members of the GCC and the Arab League.

Economic relations

Trade and investment between the two countries have grown, with cooperation in energy, mining and logistics. Oman's ports are increasingly integrated with Gulf supply chains.

Transport

A road link across the Empty Quarter connects Saudi Arabia with Oman, and flights connect Muscat with Riyadh and Jeddah. The two countries have discussed rail connections as part of wider Gulf plans.

Regional cooperation

Oman has often served as a mediator in regional disputes, a role that Saudi Arabia has acknowledged.
