Saudi Arabia and China maintain a comprehensive strategic partnership. China is the Kingdom's largest trading partner and a major buyer of Saudi crude oil.

Energy

Oil is the foundation of the relationship, with China a leading destination for Saudi exports. The two countries have invested in refining and petrochemical joint ventures.

Economic relations

Trade has grown rapidly, and Chinese firms are active in Saudi construction, technology and infrastructure. Cooperation has expanded under the Belt and Road Initiative, and Saudi Arabia joined the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as a dialogue partner.

Diplomacy

China brokered the 2023 agreement restoring Saudi–Iranian relations, a significant diplomatic development. The two countries coordinate on energy and on international economic questions.

Technology

Cooperation on technology, telecommunications and artificial intelligence has expanded.
