King Salman

King Salman has been King of Saudi Arabia since 2015, and is the custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Overview

Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (born 1935) has been King of Saudi Arabia since January 2015. He is a son of the founder, Ibn Saud, and served for decades as governor of Riyadh Province before becoming crown prince.

Reign

King Salman's reign has been marked by the launch of Vision 2030, a programme of economic and social reform, and by a reorganisation of the line of succession. He holds the title Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.

Government

Under his reign the Council of Ministers and the Council of Economic and Development Affairs have driven the reform agenda, and the Public Investment Fund has become a major global investor.
