Ghazi Al-Gosaibi
Ghazi Al-Gosaibi was a Saudi poet, novelist, technocrat and diplomat, one of the most influential literary and public figures of modern Saudi Arabia.
Overview
Ghazi Abdul Rahman Al-Gosaibi (1940–2010) was a Saudi poet, novelist, short-story writer, technocrat and diplomat. He is widely regarded as one of the most important Saudi literary figures of the twentieth century.
Career
Al-Gosaibi held a doctorate in law and served as Minister of Industry and Electricity, Minister of Health, and Minister of Labour. He was also Saudi Arabia's ambassador to Bahrain and to the United Kingdom.
Literature
He published numerous collections of poetry and several novels, including "An Apartment Called Freedom" and "The Seven", which explored social change, bureaucracy and the tension between tradition and modernity. His poetry is noted for its directness and its engagement with public life.
