Overview
King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al Saud (1921–2005) was King of Saudi Arabia from 1982 until his death in 2005. He adopted the title Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques.
Reign
His reign saw major expansion of the Two Holy Mosques, the issuance of the Basic Law of Governance in 1992, and the establishment of the Shura Council. He guided the Kingdom through the Gulf War of 1990–91.
Development
He oversaw large-scale investment in infrastructure, industry and education, and the consolidation of the Kingdom's role in regional and international affairs.
Legacy
He is remembered for the institutional reforms of the early 1990s and for the expansion of the holy sites.
